The Ship

I believe that we’re all on earth to serve a purpose … higher or lower. And we just got plunked here without asking to be - so we’d better get used to it! Some may relish the opportunity to exist, while others are trying to come to terms with the ‘I am’ part. Whoever you are, you should try to make the most of your everyday interactions with people, technology and nature.

Wake up in the morning, and pretend that you’re seeing the world and breathing air in for the first time. You should be impressed with this world, because it's beautiful! Not to cast a shadow of fear or anything, but I’m surprised the aliens haven’t come sooner?!

Now part of your story should involve your journey through all sorts of mediums. I’m not talking about teleporting, but about the Arts. Yes, the expression of humanity in an otherwise standardised world. Sure, there are things that we can’t even hope to understand, and there are things that are yet to be discovered, but one thing we can hold onto is art. Art is ever-changing, pushing boundaries and exploring the outer edges of what it is to be human, and what we can make of the human experience.

It DawnsThe metaphysical world exists too, and we’re living in a realm that accommodates the parallel. Out of body experiences, paranormal, supernatural, out-of-this-world, mind-blowing experiences are just a small slice of the possible. Our art reflects our subconscious state, our way of life, reality, fantasy and the impossible. We live through art, and art lives through us.

Examining and defining ourselves can be an awkward and painful process, but I think the main part can be done in analysing what we create. SPL!NG is about analysing these creations, whether individual or team-orientated, and finding a place for them in the grand scheme of things.

Some efforts supersede others in originality, process and design. Others evoke more emotional responses. I believe that there is something positive to be gained from any self-expression, and the closer we look - the more we learn. Reviewing is an art in itself, and representing a human perspective - means subjectivity and agenda can and do interfere.

This is true for every artist. I’m here to give you my view of the big picture, my take on the expression of another and my art if you will. I’m saying read what I’ve got to say, get several versions of the elusive truth… and then form your own.
