The best way to rent DVDs.
The Low Down: PushPlay have a fine selection of over 60,000 DVDs, and are regarded as the premier online rental agency in South Africa. The model is loosely based on Netflix in the United States, where DVD rentals are selected online and delivered via the local postal service.
Pros: The best thing about Pushplay... you get to keep the DVDs as long as you want so there are no late fees. You also get to choose what you want to watch in advance, by creating a wish list from a bigger selection than most conventional rental stores offer. Delivery is usually prompt with DVDs arriving in your post box. Contracts range from R45-R219 per month for 1 DVD at a time (only 2 DVDs per month) to unlimited 6 DVDs at a time plans. Drop-boxes are available at many Vida e Caffes, Spars and BP Wild Bean Cafes for your convenience. Cons: Keeping the DVDs as long as you want, means that some DVDs rarely become available, so don't hold your breath if you're waiting on that one crucial foreign film. Returning DVDs to drop-boxes is just as painful as dropping rental DVDs at the store when you've finished watching them. If you lose a DVD, you can expect to pay up to R250 for a replacement. PushPlay is only available in the greater Cape Town area, Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Bloemfontein and Knysna at present.
