DVD Noveau

Classic and Art Movies for Rent.

The Low Down:
DVD Noveau is based in Cape Town with one store in Newlands and one in the CBD, near Gardens. The chain is a sister store to the Absolutely Fabulous Video Store in Johannesburg, famous for its selection of art, classic, cult and foreign films. DVD Noveau carries the torch with its user-friendly store layout, seating and extensive range of hard-to-find classics.

Pros: The main attraction is the extensive range of art, cult, classic, TV series and foreign films available. DVD Noveau charges R22 per rental, which is on the upper end of the rental market. However, you get to keep rentals for 2 days, as long as you return the discs before 9pm closing time on the second day. Some of the stores even have a coffee bar, so that you can browse their incredible film collection at your leisure.

DVD Noveau is a video store designed for film connoisseurs and well-versed movie goers. They flip the traditional video store on its head, by focusing on classics and downscaling on new releases. Contracts start from R300 for 15 DVDs and range to R1000 for 63 DVDs.

Cons: The stores are on located on busy roads, which makes returning DVDs a bit of a chore when it comes to a quick stop-'n-drop. Daily rental and contract prices are not listed on the wall and your credit card details are required to rent DVDs. DVD Noveau rarely have any promotions or special offers.
