Well, if you thought 2011 was a big year for blockbusters - look again! 2012 is just around the corner and we're expecting big things. Not only was 2012 the title for Roland Emmerich's latest doomsday disaster flick based on the Mayan calendar, it's a year that will continue the splurge of blockbuster sequels, remakes and superhero madness. Take a look at what you can expect and be sure to cast your vote on the left navigation bar for Most anticipated movie of 2012?...
On the remake front, The Amazing Spider-Man took us all by surprise. It wasn't that long ago that Tobey Maguire was the spider guy in red-and-blue. Well, there's a new kid on the block... neighbourhood, Andrew Garfield, who replaces Maguire. Is it too soon? Other remakes for 2012 include Total Recall... if you can recall it was a Schwarzenegger classic, Godzilla... it was bound to happen after that so-so monster movie with Matthew Broderick and the recent success of Cloverfield.
Superhero madness continues to propel the Marvel Studio steamroller forward with the release of The Avengers after delivering Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and the ever popular Iron Man series, despite some stop-start with casting a stable The Incredible Hulk... goes with the territory. DC are fighting back with The Dark Knight Rises, which is primed to be Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale's last installment after the runaway success of The Dark Knight. Then let's not forget about Spidey.
Big-ass blockbuster sequels for 2012 include: The Expendables 2... old school '80s action stars including Chuck Norris, Ghostbusters III... Bill Murray cameo please, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II... breaking yawn, Resident Evil: Retribution - it's Milla time, The Wrath of the Titans - comes with a free Trojan horse, The Bourne Legacy - espionage to go, G.I. Joe: Retaliation (them or us?) and Men in Black III among others. Aliens, Greek Gods, action heroes and plenty of fantasy is being served up in 2012. As long as the fan bases keep dishing up hoardes of movie goers, the bankable movies and then subsequent new DVDs will keep coming!
One film that seems to be slightly adrift from the lot is that of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is going to be made in two parts. No doubt, everyone will be comparing to The Lord of the Rings trilogy... no easy task there. Let's hope it surpasses expectations. |
